Oracle Database 11g is now certified with E-Business Suite Release 11i
Yes, Oracle Database 11g Release 1 (11.1.0.6.0) is now certified with E-Business Suite Release 11i on Linux x86-32 and Windows platforms. The prerequisites are the following:
Additional interoperability patches are also required. For complete details, you should see the Metalink Note #452783.1 below.
Limitations
- Upgrade of existing non-RAC 9i and 10g E-Business Suite 11i databases to 11.1.0.6 RAC using RCONFIG utility is not yet certified. There will be separate announcement as soon as the effort is complete.
- For customers using Dell hardware, see Note 555036.1 on OracleMetaLink. This affects functionality which uses the 11g JDBC such as AutoConfig on the database tier
- [Update further comments on this post] Starting in Oracle Database 11g Release 1, the physical standby database can be opened with read-only access while redo is being applied to the standby database. This mode, referred to as real-time query standby, allows users to access an up-to-date physical standby database for queries at any time. Using the Physical Standby DB as the reporting DB in an E-BS context is not currently certified.
Documentation
[Update 4th April, 2008]: Oracle Database 11g Release 1 (11.1.0.6.0) is now certified with E-Business Suite Release 11i on these additional platforms: HP-UX PA-RISC, Sun Solaris SPARC, and IBM AIX. The revised platform availability list is as follows Linux x86-32, HP-UX PA-RISC, IBM AIX, Sun Solaris SPARC and Windows x86.
This certification of 11g with E-Business Suite 11i is a very important point for all customers using Physical Dataguard for High Availability because starting in Oracle Database 11g Release 1, the physical standby database can be opened with read-only access while redo is being applied to the standby database. This mode, referred to as real-time query standby, allows users to access an up-to-date physical standby database for queries at any time. We could to start to think to use the Physical Standby DB as the reporting DB.
We’re aware that a lot of customers would like to upgrade to 11g in order to use it as a reporting DB. We have been informed that these feature is not yet certified. We’re following it and I will update this post as soon as possible.
