Oracle/SAP integration
Oracle Applications InterConnect was the solution designed to manage Oracle to SAP integration. This component was part of the Oracle9i Application Server and provided standard adapters for Oracle E-BS and SAP R/3 (details here).
The new Oracle integration tool generation is based on SOA Suite and Application Integration Architecture (AIA) framework. Oracle Process Integration Packs (PIPs) deliver prepackaged, end-to-end business process integrations across Oracle Applications. Based on the Application Integration Architecture framework, these out-of-the-box process integrations include everything you need to rapidly enable service-oriented applications, from business processes to common objects and services to SOA Governance, at greatly reduced cost. I’m personally not aware about anything specific on Process Integration Pack (PIPs) for SAP yet. But, here are some of the non-AIA integrations between Oracle Applications and SAP:
- Agile Link-to-SAP XI: Agile Product Collaboration provides a comprehensive solution to manage bill of material (BOM), item, and engineering change order (ECO) data necessary for product content collaboration across the manufacturing supply chain.
- Oracle Communications for SAP RM-CA Manage: SAP RM-CA Manager integrates the BRM billing platform with SAP Revenue Management–Contract Accounting (SAP RM-CA), a revenue management system that SAP offers to the telecommunications industry
- Siebel Connector for SAP R/3: The Siebel Connector for SAP R/3 supports both synchronous and asynchronous transactions across application boundaries. The resulting consistency of data provides efficient coordination between front and back-office operations. Details here.
- Oracle Business Intelligence Applications (BI Apps) are prebuilt BI solutions that deliver intuitive, role-based intelligence for everyone in an organisation that enable better decisions, actions, and business processes. Based on best practices, these solutions enable organisations to gain greater insight and value from a range of data sources and applications including Oracle E-Business Suite, PeopleSoft, Siebel, and third party systems such as SAP.
- Imaging & Process Management (I/PM), part of the Stellent assets, provides organisations with a scalable solution focused on process-oriented imaging applications and image-enabling enterprise applications. With I/PM, organisations can quickly integrate their content and processes directly with Oracle and other third party enterprise applications, such as EBS, PeopleSoft Enterprise, JD Edwards Enterprise One and JD Edwards World, Microsoft Business Solutions, SAP, Lawson, and Baan.
This list could be not exhaustive. Please let me know comments/input/questions as usual.
How does a system specific integration solution like this compare to a more flexible platform (flexible in the sense that it also connects your Oracle and SAP systems to your other enterprise applications , not just to each other) such as a Tibco or an open source alternative like Jitterbit?
I think we cannot compare the Oracle pre-built integration solutions to the integration platforms itself.
For example, Oracle Process Integration Packs (PIPs) which deliver prepackaged, end-to-end business process integrations across Oracle, third party and custom applications is based on Oracle Application Integration Architecture (AIA).
AIA provides an open standards anf flexible based framework for creating cross-application business processes.
Finally, AIA is powered by Oracle Fusion Middleware, which could be compare to Tibco, Jitterbit and other middleware solution.
